Wuppermann AG
Sustainability campaign – CO2-free production
Wuppermann AG, a steel-processing corporate group headquartered in Leverkusen, aims to by the year 2025, reduce the total CO2 emissions of its production at all locations to zero. To this end, we have developed a cross-media campaign on the topic of sustainability which communicates this strategic corporate goal and presents the planned and partially implemented measures.
What we did
The client
Wuppermann AG
The Wuppermann Group is a medium-sized family business based in Leverkusen that has been active in 1872 steel processing since. The company’s product portfolio includes surface-coated flat products, tubes, and tube components made of steel for mechanical engineering and various other sectors such as for example the solar industry or road construction. The Leverkusen-based company produces approximately one million tons of galvanized steel strip per year and currently has five production sites with more than 800 employees.
The challenge
Transition to fully CO2-neutral production
The company is committed to its responsibility regarding sustainability and climate protection. It has therefore set the transition to fully CO2-neutral production by 2025 as a strategic goal. This is achieved primarily through the procurement of CO2-neutral or green electricity. The accompanying communication is intended to highlight the high importance of the topic as a strategic corporate goal and, at the same time, demonstrate the concrete savings measures as evidence of the company’s prompt action.
The concept
Development of a cross-media campaign
We have developed a cross-media campaign that reaches and informs the various target groups of the Wuppermann Group across different sectors – from the steel industry and the solar sector to manufacturers of vehicle restraint systems. The core message is broadly communicated through a communication mix consisting of a landing page, a video interview with the spokesperson for the Executive Board, advertisements, press releases, and clips for social media channels.
Landing page
As the centerpiece of the campaign, we designed, created, and programmed a bilingual landing page with UX/UI design. This summarizes all information on the implementation of CO2 reduction measures at the respective company locations in a clear and targeted manner.
The landing page takes the visitor on an interactive and individual customer journey: links and buttons lead the user to multi-layered information on energy savings in the galvanizing process, accompanied by trust elements such as certificates and studies on the subject. The full-length video interview with spokesperson Johannes Nonn is available, and the print version can be downloaded.
The landing page was programmed using Processwire. This open-source CMS is a smart and proven alternative to TYPO3 and WordPress and is characterized by high flexibility for the implementation of individual designs and functionalities. It is also considered exceptionally secure and user-friendly.
Video interview
The content basis of the campaign is an interview with Johannes Nonn, spokesperson for the Executive Board, in which he explains the company’s motivation, the concrete measures, the schedule, and the benefits for customers. He also speaks very personally about his own motives. He is an authentic ambassador for the campaign, credibly embodying Wuppermann’s sustainability goal as an integral part of the corporate strategy.
We designed, filmed, edited, and refined the interview video “11 Questions on Sustainability for Mr. Nonn,” supplementing it with additional visual and animated information material. The full version of the video is available on the landing page and YouTube, and individual sequences are being released simultaneously on social media channels.
Key visual and advertising concept
For the advertising concept featuring print ads and web banners, the existing key visual from Wuppermann’s “Maximum corrosion protection with minimum CO2 emissions” campaign – also developed by us – was further refined with its own color and keyword definition. The bracket element has high recognition value. Strong, emotional motifs from the field of renewable energies – solar, wind, and hydropower – underscore the clear, direct message.
Press campaign
The basis for the press texts was the interview with Mr. Nonn, which we designed, conducted, and recorded. The key statements were summarized concisely in press releases. These, along with the long-form interview, include links to the landing page and the interview video. They were well-received in the industry’s most important print and online media. Furthermore, the digital edition of the Rheinische Post, “rp-online,” also picked up the news for the general public.
The result
Communication of concrete and verifiable measures
With the goal of CO2-neutral production by 2025, Wuppermann is facing up to its responsibility regarding sustainability. The campaign communicates the concrete and verifiable measures by which the company wants to be measured. This underlines Wuppermann’s credibility. . The interview with the spokesperson for the Executive Board demonstrates the high importance of the topic within the company and gives the message weight – keyword: “Thought Leadership“. The interview appeared on RP-Online, among other places, and thus reaches – in addition to publication in relevant industry media – a broad public..
